ORGANISATIONAL OR COMMUNITY CONFERENCING

The common term for these incidents is “multiple incidents in common” - where there has been a “history of poorly resolved or unresolved disputes”.

A sequence of poorly resolved incidents

The situation of those affected was doing OK but then:

1.     The situation turned bad;

2.     The situation went from bad to worse;

3.     Now something really needs to be done.

Another type of group conference deals with some common issue that is causing problems or escalating ill-feeling among individuals or groups of people. This may be a situation such as a group of people feeling they are overlooked in the provision of community resources and many attempts to address the issue has not produced a satisfactory outcome.

Getting the right people into the room is important.  Bringing everyone together involves getting the people who have an interest in the outcome to all be available to participate.

·       To bring understanding about what happened and how people have been affected.

·       To assist with developing, implementing, monitoring a plan to improve the situation by repairing & preventing harm, & promoting well-being.

There may be an issue of common concern in the community.

Those involved have many different experiences of the same general situation:

1.     The facilitator will draw out specific examples;

2.     The facilitator will guide the participants to recognise general Issues and prioritise them

3.     The Facilitator will equip the participants to create general options;

4.     The Facilitator will empower the participants to devise specific actions.
